What is Mentoring?

Mentoring offers an opportunity to clarify issues, apply practical strategies and find solutions to problems. It is a joint endeavour between me and the client, in which we use our shared knowledge and experience to find solutions to problems.

Mentoring is different to counselling and coaching. It is focused mainly on the present, considers issues of both a practical and emotional nature, and is not necessarily goal or outcome orientated.

Mentoring Offers:

  • Increased clarity and understanding of issues

  • Practical strategies to improve your work and study experience

  • An exploration of thoughts, feelings and behaviours

  • Potential for new perspectives

  • An increased understanding of yourself

  • Skills development

  • Practical guidance

My Areas of Expertise:

  • Stress

  • Anxiety

  • Overwhelm

  • High Sensitivity

  • Self care

  • Self regulation

  • Motivation and concentration

  • Work-Life balance

  • Transition and change

  • Burn out

  • Compassion fatigue

How I Work:

In the first session I will ask you questions in order to understand your situation and what you may want to be different in your life. We then work together to explore possible ways forward. It is a process of developing awareness, building up new knowledge and experience of what is possible, and inviting change. It is a collaborative experience and we go at your pace.

Having trained in integrative humanistic counselling and psychotherapy, and having worked as a University Mentor for the last five years, I use a range of techniques and strategies to support each individual to discover what works best for them. I draw on Polyvagal Theory (body-mind focus on experience), Gestalt Theory (developing awareness), and Formative Psychology (changing experience).

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and comply with their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions 2018. I am fully insured and hold an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate.
